Curious Creatures Rebrand

In 2019, as an exercise to keep my design skills sharp and learn some new programs, I did a mock rebrand of a reptile supply shop in my neighborhood.

My goal was to create something bright, modern, and friendly that would work well in print and digital environments.

The Logo

I began by redesigning the logo. The shop's actual logo is charmingly hand drawn, and features the reptile types they breed and the shop's in-house tortoise. Unfortunately, it doesn't scale well in a digital space. I simplified it to a lizard creating a C shape with the wordmark in a clean modern font.

Icons and Website

As I set about redesigning the website, I created custom icons to represent Curious Creatures' three breeding programs: snakes, lizards, and geckos. I wanted these to feel clean and modern while also keeping some of the hand-drawn charm of the original logo.

With the icons completed, it was time to redesign the website. I chose a bright, minty green as the main brand color to bring a pop of color into the design.

Swag

Every rebrand needs new swag! I mocked up business cards featuring the many different reptiles they breed and sell in the shop. Curious Creatures also has some in-house shop pets. I couldn't resist putting their names on a shirt. The storefront also got a mocked up facelift.

The next time I went to the shop to get my pet cornsnake Cecil some food, I shared the design with them as a gift. They kept their original logo but took inspiration from the color palette to design their new site. All in all, it was a fun personal project!
